Small companies with web sites have not been happy for a long time with the lack of business from their web site.  Neither would I, you pay anything from a few hundred to a few thousand Euro to publicise your business and nothing happens.

Some though are starting to catch on, and have been reading about SEO, search engine marketing.  This is good, it will allow companies that are providing good services in niche markets to be found in the likes of Google.
