SEO Clients
I would love to have customers that are selling products that I know quite a bit about and it would be great if if also had a high level of interest in their products, as you would expect it is not always the case.
Many of the sites I have been working on this year have been about products that I knew little about before starting. For me this means research, reading the information on their site, and compiling a list of questions to have answered on a long telephone call - meeting take a bit too much time, especially in the traffic around Dublin.
My dream client would know all about SEO and the only reason they were hiring me is they don’t have the time to do it themselves. It has been easier for me when businesses know something about SEO, it helps to temper expectations.
I turned up for one meeting recently, expecting to speak only to the owner of the business - we had chatted a few times on the phone about the on-going work and they wanted me to sit for half a day and give a complete run through on SEO.
When I arrived I was surprised to find that the meeting was with most of the staff. The owner had decided that everyone in her business that came into contact with the website should be at the meeting and that included all the sales staff. I was stunned at their eagerness to learn, it was a great morning and I hope I left them with a bit more understanding on how Google ranks websites.
I love what I do - many business sites can list well quite easily with little work as they are targeting a micro-niche, but that little amount of work usually takes a couple of months at least to feed through into the search results. I find it difficult sometimes to manage expectations during the waiting period - most of us want fairly quickly results.
